Isaac Seumalo has been a steady presence for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line over the past three seasons, providing crucial support to younger players like Dan Moore Jr., Broderick Jones, and Dylan Cook. As the 32-year-old guard prepares to enter free agency on March 11, the Steelers face uncertainty about his future with the team amid his injury concerns and age.
Steelers’ Strategy to Fill Seumalo’s Potential Vacancy
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers plan to pursue a veteran guard in free agency to replace Seumalo if he signs elsewhere. Dulac noted on 102.5 WDVE’s Morning Show with Randy Baumann that the current free agent guard market is thin, with mostly older players or inexperienced rookies available.
“They’ll go sign a veteran in free agency, that’s their intention,”
Dulac said. He added,
“Looking at the free agent market for guards, it doesn’t seem like it’s the greatest. You either have a bunch of old guys, or a bunch of young guys. Seumalo is not a big ticket, but we’ll see. The problem is he’s been nicked a lot lately. He has played, but he doesn’t practice a lot because he seems to be hurt a lot. He’ll probably test the market, but if he leaves, their intention is to sign a guard in free agency to replace him.”
Draft and Free Agency Options for Pittsburgh’s Offensive Line
The Steelers enter the offseason with 12 draft picks, offering another path to strengthening the guard position through rookies. However, the limited interviews with guard prospects at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine point to subdued interest in young rookies, making a reliable veteran more attractive to begin the season. Potential free agent targets include Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller, Kevin Zeitler, James Daniels, Ethan Pocic, John Simpson, and Alijah Vera-Tucker. Many of these players are veterans older than Seumalo or expected to command higher salaries. James Daniels represents a younger option but comes with risks due to consecutive season-ending injuries in recent years.

Seumalo’s Market Value and Potential Return for the Steelers
Despite his injuries and age, Seumalo is unlikely to be among the top paid free agents in the league; however, he might sign the most lucrative contract among Steelers departing players this offseason. This would grant Pittsburgh a compensatory draft pick in 2027, though it would be capped at a fifth-round level because of Seumalo’s ten years of NFL experience. With limited free agent guard options and the factors surrounding Seumalo’s status, the Steelers may consider bringing him back after evaluating the free agent market.
Possible Outcomes for Seumalo and Pittsburgh’s Offensive Line
Isaac Seumalo’s injury history and advancing age suggest his contract demands will remain modest, which could open the door for a reunion with the Steelers should he test free agency. The team’s cautious approach to handling their offensive line depth through a mix of veterans and rookies highlights the importance of stability at the guard position heading into the 2026 season. How the Steelers navigate this offseason will shape the future performance and protection of their young offensive line talent.
