Raiders Cut Alex Cappa, Freeing $5M in Cap Space

The Las Vegas Raiders announced the release of guard Alex Cappa on Friday, a move that clears $5.01 million in salary cap space for the team, according to OverTheCap. The decision also results in $1 million in dead money against the Raiders’ cap.

Alex Cappa’s Career Journey and Contract History

Alex Cappa, aged 31, was initially drafted in the third round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018 out of Humboldt State. He signed a four-year rookie contract valued at approximately $3.37 million, which included a $793,704 signing bonus and guaranteed money of the same amount, with an average salary of $842,176 per year.

After fulfilling his rookie deal, Cappa inked a four-year, $40 million free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was entering the final year of that agreement with a scheduled base salary of $8 million before being released. The Las Vegas Raiders acquired Cappa last offseason under a two-year contract.

Performance During the 2025 Season

During the 2025 season, Cappa appeared in all 17 games for the Raiders, starting in eight at the center position. Despite his consistent participation, the team has opted to move on from the veteran offensive lineman.

Financial and Team Implications Moving Forward

This roster adjustment provides the Raiders with additional cap flexibility as they prepare for offseason moves. Releasing Cappa allows the team to reallocate resources and potentially target new players to strengthen their offensive line. Fans and analysts will closely watch the Raiders’ next steps in free agency and the draft.
