After trading defensive star Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens, the Las Vegas Raiders have freed up approximately $121.7 million in salary cap space to reinforce their roster this offseason. With this newfound flexibility, the Raiders appear to be showing strong interest in center Tyler Linderbaum, a premium free-agent prospect coveted by Baltimore as well as other NFL teams. The pursuit of Linderbaum aligns with the Raiders’ urgent need to strengthen their offensive line, especially if they select Indiana Hoosiers’ quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the upcoming draft.
Contract Negotiations Between Linderbaum and Ravens Stall
Sources indicate that the Baltimore Ravens have struggled to finalize a contract extension with Tyler Linderbaum, prompting the center to test the open market starting March 9, the beginning of the NFL’s legal tampering period. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Ravens have persistently tried to retain Linderbaum, who is regarded as one of the league’s best centers and is expected to command a salary exceeding $20 million annually.
[The Ravens] have tried over the last several days, last several weeks, to bring back Tyler Linderbaum, the All-Pro, Pro Bowl center, one of the best centers in the NFL,
Rapoport said on March 8.
“Certainly someone who’s going to be, I would say, the highest-paid center in the NFL when all this is done.”
He is looking at $20-plus million. From my understanding, the Ravens have remained in contact with him, still have interest in having him back, but there are some other teams, no doubt, that are lurking. I would say the Las Vegas Raiders would make a lot of sense.

Multiple Teams Compete for Linderbaum’s Talent
Rapoport also highlighted that several organizations besides the Ravens and Raiders are pursuing Linderbaum, making him one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason. The Washington Commanders, after releasing Tyler Biadasz who then signed a $10 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, are expected to show interest, along with the Tennessee Titans, who have a pressing need at the center position.
Washington Commanders, who cut Tyler Biadasz, only to see him sign for a $10 million-per-year deal with the Chargers. They’re expected to have interest as well. The Tennessee Titans need a center. Tyler Linderbaum is going to do exceptionally well in this free-agent market. Really, it’s just a matter of, does he land back in Baltimore, or do they have a big need to fill there?
Why Linderbaum Fits Perfectly with the Raiders’ Offensive Scheme
Ted Nguyen of The Athletic emphasized that the Raiders are likely to present a substantial contract offer to Linderbaum if he becomes a free agent. The center plays a critical role in head coach Klint Kubiak’s zone-blocking offense, serving as the key figure in identifying defensive fronts and setting protections. This role is especially crucial given doubts about whether current player Jackson Powers-Johnson can fulfill center duties, as he has been shifted to guard under multiple coaching staffs.
In Kubiak’s offense, that zone‑blocking system requires the point‑of‑attack center to be a legitimate player,
Nguyen said on Raider Nation Radio on February 24. “In this system, the center is making all the calls, not the quarterback. The quarterback does have the final say to change it, but the center is the one who sets the protections, points to the Mike, and handles all those responsibilities.
“There are some questions about whether Jackson Powers-Johnson can handle it, which is why he was moved to guard by two different staffs already. Finding a center is going to be important. The Ravens announced [on Feb. 24] that they offered Linderbaum, who is widely regarded as a top free agent, a market‑setting deal.”
Maybe he doesn’t enter free agency, or maybe he does decide to test the market. If he does, the Raiders are likely to make a pretty sizable offer because the center is such an important part of this offense.
Implications of the Raiders Pursuing Linderbaum
The Raiders’ pursuit of Tyler Linderbaum represents a strategic effort to secure a foundational piece for their offensive line, essential to the success of their evolving offensive scheme under Klint Kubiak. By potentially adding a Pro Bowl-caliber center, Las Vegas could significantly improve protection for their quarterback and enhance overall offensive efficiency. The competition between the Raiders, Ravens, and other contenders heightens the offseason tension, with the possibility of a high-priced bidding war. Linderbaum’s eventual decision will not only shape the Raiders’ season but could also impact the balance of power among teams vying for playoff contention.
