Giants Retain Chris Manhertz in Key Pre-Free Agency Move

The New York Giants took action to strengthen their tight end roster by re-signing Chris Manhertz before he entered free agency. The move keeps Manhertz with the team for an 11th NFL season, marking his third year with the Giants.

According to Adam Schefter’s report on Monday, the Giants offered Manhertz a one-year contract extension. Over the past two seasons, he has played every game for New York, missing just one game across four teams since 2020.

Manhertz’s Role as a Reliable Blocking Tight End

While not known for his receiving abilities, Manhertz has been a consistent and dependable inline blocker. Standing 6-foot-6, he lined up on the line of scrimmage for nearly all of his 208 offensive snaps in the 2025 season, with very few snaps in other positions. His run-blocking grade placed him 13th among 50 qualifying tight ends last season, as evaluated by Pro Football Focus.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh is focusing on strengthening the offensive trenches as he prepares for his first season with the team. Rumors also link the Giants to potential free-agent running back Kenneth Walker, whose addition would support the running game and help relieve pressure on second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Upcoming Developments in NFL Free Agency

As the NFL free agency period unfolds, the Giants’ timely retention of Chris Manhertz highlights their approach to maintaining experienced depth in key positions. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how the team continues to shape its roster in pursuit of improved performance this coming season.
