The Chicago Bears continue to strengthen their defense by planning to sign defensive lineman Kentavius Street to a one-year deal as the new NFL league year begins. This move aims to address the team’s need for depth on the defensive line amid ongoing roster changes.
Kentavius Street Expected to Join Bears’ Defensive Line
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Street will be signed following his most recent three-year stint with the Atlanta Falcons. Throughout his career, he has also played for the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and Philadelphia Eagles, bringing valuable experience to the Bears’ defense.
In 85 games, Street has compiled 125 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hits, and 10.5 sacks while also contributing with two pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Despite starting only 10 of those games, his consistent presence has made him a reliable rotational player.
Street’s Role and Impact on Chicago’s Defense
During the last season with Atlanta, Street recorded 21 tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and two sacks, primarily serving as a backup defensive tackle. The Bears have been looking to bolster their defensive tackle and edge rusher groups after multiple players entered free agency.
Earlier in the week, Chicago signed defensive tackle Neville Gallimore and re-signed Daniel Hardy to add depth. While Street’s arrival won’t dramatically change the defensive line’s dynamics, his ability to rotate inside with Gallimore, Grevon Dexter, and Grady Jarrett, or edge rushers like Montez Sweat and Austin Booker, will provide crucial rest and impact immediately.
Street is expected to be a strong run stopper, addressing a persistent need the Bears have faced since last season and helping maintain defensive stability.
Ongoing Efforts to Strengthen the Bears’ Roster
With general manager Ryan Poles actively improving the team’s defense, the addition of Kentavius Street reflects continued efforts to reinforce key positions. This move comes as the Bears respond to recent roster changes, including addressing replacements for players like Nahshon Wright, exemplified by signing Cam Lewis.
