Maxx Crosby Trade Talks Collapse: Will Cowboys Reopen?

The planned trade sending renowned pass rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens has abruptly fallen through just before the new NFL league year. This unexpected reversal raises questions about whether the Dallas Cowboys might reconsider their position and rekindle interest in acquiring the North Texas native.

Baltimore backs out after Crosby reportedly fails physical

On Tuesday night, the Las Vegas Raiders announced that Baltimore withdrew from the previously agreed deal, which would have sent Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks. While the teams reached an agreement last Friday, finalization was postponed until Wednesday. An anonymous source familiar with Baltimore’s choice told The Associated Press that Crosby did not pass his physical examination, which triggered the collapse of the trade. Crosby had surgery in January for a torn meniscus in his left knee and missed the final two games of last season due to the injury despite wanting to continue playing.

In a recent interview on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Crosby shared that his rehabilitation was progressing faster than expected. Supporting this, his agent CJ LaBoy confirmed on social media that Crosby remains on schedule with his recovery under the care of esteemed orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Maxx continues to be on track in his recovery and if anything is ahead of schedule according to his surgeon,

Maxx remains on track to return during the offseason program & will undoubtedly return as the dominant game wrecker he has been these past 7 seasons.

Crosby’s potential arrival had been viewed as a way for Baltimore to bolster their defense, while the Raiders planned to use the draft picks for a rebuilding phase. The 28-year-old recorded 10 sacks and a career-best 28 tackles for loss last year, achieving double-digit sacks four times during his seven NFL seasons.

Cowboys’ hesitation and moves before Baltimore agreement

Despite interest from various teams in securing the five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher, the Dallas Cowboys were reluctant to offer multiple first-round picks required to finalize a trade for Crosby, according to CBS News Sports. While Crosby grew up in Colleyville, Texas, and a return there might seem logical, some insiders believe Dallas missed their window after recently trading for pass rusher Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers, surrendering a 2027 fourth-round pick.

The Cowboys have concentrated their efforts on reshaping their defensive line by adding Gary along with several other former first-round defensive tackles. Although formal moves become official at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 11, there is still uncertainty if further negotiations could arise.

Broader implications and next steps in trade discussions

The collapse of this major trade deal adds tension and uncertainty as teams approach the start of the NFL year, impacting strategies around key defensive players like Crosby. How the Raiders will proceed without the expected draft capital and whether the Cowboys might renew discussions remain open questions. Meanwhile, Crosby’s health and ability to return to peak form will be crucial factors influencing how his next contract and team affiliation develop.
