Charlie McAvoy & Swayman Aim to Bring USA Olympic Gold

The NHL has returned to the Olympic stage with players actively competing, and the Boston Bruins have key representatives on Team USA. Among those carrying the hopes for an Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey are Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy and goalie Jeremy Swayman. Both players arrived early to participate in the Opening Ceremonies, marking a memorable start to the tournament.

Experiencing the Olympic Spirit at the Opening Ceremonies

For McAvoy, being part of the ceremonies was a unique and inspiring experience. He shared,

“It was incredible. I think there was a lot of buildup for it, a lot of excitement,”

McAvoy said, via Bruins.com.

“I used the chance to meet a lot of other athletes and hear about their sports and how they’ve been doing, because some of them are already getting going.”

Describing the moment, he added,

“Really, it was incredible. That moment is just once in a lifetime when you come out there. I was pretty starstruck looking up and seeing all the lights and everything. I will never forget that moment.”

Determined to Restore USA’s Olympic Hockey Prominence

After soaking in the Olympic atmosphere, McAvoy is focused on helping the United States reclaim the gold medal in men’s hockey. He recognizes the challenge ahead but remains confident in the team’s potential.

“It has been a long time since America has won a gold in the Olympics. Just how special it would be to be part of the group that brings it back,”

McAvoy noted. He also reflected on the legacy that fuels the team’s motivation, saying,

“The Miracle on Ice, the movie Miracle, the players from that – they’ve been a huge inspiration to us growing up. You’re scoring the goal and pretending to be Mike Eruzione in the driveway.”

Swayman’s Readiness to Support Team USA’s Goals

Goalie Jeremy Swayman begins the tournament as Team USA’s third goalie but remains prepared to step in whenever needed. He brings valuable experience from winning gold at the World Championships last year, an achievement that carried deep personal significance. Swayman explained,

“That win was a lot deeper than just a gold medal for me personally, The adversity that I faced with this last year; it was a really big weight off my shoulders. I am just so grateful that Team USA believed in me to put me a part of that team.”

Looking ahead, Swayman emphasized his commitment:

“I’ve got a job to do, and that is to win games for Team USA. I know I am going to do it, and everyone in this room is going to do it. We’re really excited to get moving forward.”
