Jordan Kyrou Open to Trade Ahead of NHL Deadline

Jordan Kyrou, a consistent presence among the St. Louis Blues’ top-six forwards for nearly a decade, could be on the move before the NHL Trade Deadline on March 6. As trade discussions intensify around the league, Kyrou’s name has surfaced among players the Blues may consider trading amid a challenging season.

The Blues’ general manager Doug Armstrong, who is currently attending the Winter Olympics in Milan with Team Canada, appears open to trade offers involving several players, including Kyrou. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Kyrou himself

“remains in play and the player would be open to a change of scenery.”

Pagnotta further noted,

“Blues GM Doug Armstrong is willing to listen to trade inquiries on almost every one of his players, but the price tag for one is significantly different than the price tag for another.”

Kyrou, 27, has been linked to trade rumors for some time, drawing attention during the NHL Draft by teams such as the Montreal Canadiens and Seattle Kraken.

Kyrou’s Contract and Recent Performance

Despite being a key contributor for St. Louis, Kyrou faces a difficult 2025-26 season, totaling 13 goals and 32 points over 47 games for a team struggling in the standings. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Kyrou carries an $8.125 million cap hit and holds a full no-trade clause in his contract. Nevertheless, he would reportedly approve a trade if presented with the right opportunity and environment.

Over his career with the Blues, Kyrou has demonstrated strong offensive skills, surpassing 30 goals in three consecutive seasons and topping 70 points in three of the past four years. However, the current campaign has been a departure from his usual production, coinciding with the Blues’ difficulties this year.

Blues’ Wider Trade Strategies as Deadline Approaches

General Manager Doug Armstrong faces considerable decisions with the trade deadline approaching, with Kyrou among several players possibly on the move. Others linked to potential trades include Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, Oskar Sundqvist, Mathieu Joseph, and Pius Suter.

Among these, Kyrou and Robert Thomas stand out as core members signed through the 2030-31 season. While the franchise could opt to retain both through a rebuild, there is acknowledgment that trading either could yield valuable returns. Pagnotta projects,

“trade talks involving several Blues are expected to pick up over the next two weeks leading up to the deadline and if a move involving Kyrou isn’t completed by deadline day, talks are expected to pick up again in the off-season, potentially around the NHL Draft in Buffalo.”

Currently positioned at 20-28-9 and ranked last in the Central Division at the conclusion of the Olympic break, the Blues face slim chances of reaching the playoffs this season. This situation increases the likelihood that veteran players like Kyrou or Thomas may be given fresh opportunities elsewhere.

Implications of Potential Trades on the Blues’ Future

Any trade involving Kyrou or Thomas would signal significant shifts for the St. Louis Blues organization, suggesting that a rebuild phase may be underway. While it remains uncertain whether either player will be traded before March 6, such moves would mark a turning point for the franchise as it contemplates its long-term competitive strategy.

With the NHL Draft in Buffalo and the off-season approaching, the Blues will continue to monitor trade prospects closely. Kyrou’s openness to relocation combined with the team’s position in the standings makes this period critical for determining the next chapter of both his career and the team’s future direction.
