Mammoth Recall Scott Perunovich and Kevin Connauton for Depth Boost

With Olli Maatta currently competing in the Olympics, the Mammoth have recalled defensemen Scott Perunovich and Kevin Connauton from the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners to strengthen their defensive lineup during practice. This move aims to provide the necessary depth as the team adjusts to player absences.

Scott Perunovich’s Progress and Contribution in Tucson

Scott Perunovich, now in his first season with the Mammoth after signing a one-year, two-way contract, has yet to appear in an NHL game this season. The 27-year-old has spent his entire year with the Roadrunners, marking his first extended stay in the AHL since the 2022-23 season. Over 43 games, Perunovich has been notably productive, leading all defensemen on the team with three goals and 27 assists.

Veteran Presence of Kevin Connauton Returning

Kevin Connauton brings valuable experience with 360 NHL games played, although he has not appeared in the league since the 2021-22 season. Now 35 years old, he is in the last year of his two-way contract and has participated in 23 games for Tucson this year, contributing two assists. Given the current roster health for Utah, both Connauton and Perunovich’s stints with the Mammoth’s main squad are expected to be brief.

Roster Adjustments Reflect Strategic Team Management

Following these recalls, Utah’s active roster stands at 22 players, just one under the league maximum. The team has moved Olli Maatta and winger Clayton Keller to non-roster status, opening the possibility of additional players being called up for practice in the coming days as the Mammoth continue to monitor their lineup during the Olympic period.
