Flyers Recall Aleksei Kolosov and Adam Ginning Ahead of NHL Restart

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled goaltender Aleksei Kolosov and defenseman Adam Ginning from their AHL affiliate, Lehigh Valley, to prepare for the NHL season‘s restart next week. This roster adjustment aims to ensure the team has enough players available for upcoming practices and games.

Kolosov’s NHL and AHL Performance Overview

Aleksei Kolosov, 24, has been called up multiple times during the current season, including stints following Samuel Ersson’s lower-body injury before the Olympic break. Kolosov has appeared in four NHL games this season, conceding eight goals on 47 shots. Last season, he played 17 games at the NHL level, recording a 3.59 goals-against average (GAA) and a .867 save percentage (SV%).

In the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Kolosov has shown stronger results across 24 games, posting a 2.65 GAA and a .909 SV%, along with two shutouts. Although Ersson was expected to return quickly after the Olympics, Kolosov may remain with the Flyers longer if Ersson requires additional recovery time.

Adam Ginning’s Role and Recent Activity

Adam Ginning, who earned a spot on Philadelphia’s roster out of training camp, has mostly served as a reserve defenseman this season. He has played five NHL games without recording any points. After clearing waivers in mid-November, he briefly returned to Philadelphia in January but did not appear in any games, spending most of the season with Lehigh Valley instead. With the Phantoms, Ginning has played 29 games, contributing one goal and three assists.

Temporary Nature of Ginning’s Recall Amid Olympic Absences

With Flyers defensemen Travis Sanheim and Rasmus Ristolainen still in Italy competing in the Olympics, Ginning’s recall appears to be primarily for practice purposes. His promotion to the NHL roster seems unlikely to translate into regular playing time unless injuries occur. To accommodate Kolosov and Ginning’s arrivals, Sanheim and Ristolainen have been moved to non-roster status during their Olympic participation.
