San Jose Sharks’ Celebrini Returns After Olympic Silver Surge

The San Jose Sharks have returned to the NHL ice after a pause for the 2026 Winter Olympics held in Milan, Italy. Among the team’s standout players is 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini, who showcased his talent on the international stage while playing for Team Canada during the Olympics.

The Sharks brought back two Olympians as part of their roster. Celebrini, reflecting on his Olympic experience, expressed frustration over narrowly missing out on a gold medal. Meanwhile, teammate Pavel Regenda represented Team Slovakia, which finished in fourth place in the men’s hockey tournament.

Macklin Celebrini’s Olympic Performance and Reflections

Celebrini had an impressive showing in Milan, scoring five goals and assisting five others in 10 games, emerging as the tournament’s top scorer. His efforts helped Team Canada secure a silver medal. Despite the achievement, Celebrini admitted the sting of falling short of gold.

It sucks. It’s a little sour when you look back and we just didn’t get the job done,

Celebrini commented during a media session.

He acknowledged that coming in second to Team USA will linger as a disappointment, but his focus is already on the remaining 27 games in the NHL season, eager to contribute meaningfully to his team’s success.

Maintaining Focus as Playoff Push Continues

The Sharks currently sit just five points away from securing a playoff position, with the season’s final stretch demanding sharpened performance. Experts believe Celebrini’s Olympic experience will positively influence his game and, by extension, benefit Team Teal.

It’s unbelievable that a 19-year-old player elevated himself within 10 days of a tournament to be one of the key players in the entire Olympics. And I think that will help Macklin going forward,

said Randy Hahn, the Sharks’ television play-by-play broadcaster.

Celebrini also emphasized the impact of competing alongside elite athletes.

Just being around the best of the best, um just trying to, obviously that’s my goal and just looking at them and seeing how they approach everything and some of the things they do to make themselves successful. It definitely helped.

Pavel Regenda’s Confidence Boost from Olympic Experience

Alongside Celebrini, Pavel Regenda returned from the Olympics with a renewed sense of determination. Although Slovakia finished just out of medal contention in fourth place, Regenda views the tournament as a valuable confidence builder.

I kind of gained confidence, you know in myself, that I can play in space with guys and there wasn’t a big difference between us and them. And it gave me a lot of confidence coming back here and even more motivation and more energy to finish the season strong so we can have some run here,

Regenda explained.

With the Sharks separated by only a few points from a playoff berth, the team is intensifying its efforts to extend its season rather than wrapping it up early to prepare for offseason activities.

I believe they’ve got it in them. From the beginning of the year and especially once they got into November that this was a special Sharks team, a special group. And I think they can do it,

said Hahn.

Upcoming Schedule and What Lies Ahead

Looking forward, the Sharks are set to host the Calgary Flames at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the SAP Center. This game marks the beginning of a six-game homestand, an important stretch that could shape their playoff trajectory.

The team aims to leverage the momentum from the Olympics, with players like Celebrini and Regenda bringing the intensity and confidence gained overseas back to San Jose’s home ice. As they press toward the regular season’s final segment, the Sharks seek to convert their Olympic gains into a strong postseason run.
