Ponce City Market Developer Aims to Bring NHL Team to Atlanta

Jamestown, the real estate company recognized for developing Ponce City Market, is partnering with New York Life to transform North Point Mall in Alpharetta, Ga., into a sports-focused district, supporting efforts to bring an NHL team Atlanta development to the region. The agreement, announced on February 26, designates Jamestown to lead the redevelopment and manage the property starting in March.

Collaboration with Experts in Sports Venue Development

Jamestown will collaborate with Houston-based Machete Group, a firm experienced in creating entertainment venues connected to major sports leagues including the NHL, NFL, NBA, and MLS. This partnership aims to leverage Machete Group’s expertise to enhance the site’s attractiveness for professional sports, complementing the broader initiative to establish a hockey franchise in the Atlanta area.

Optimism Surrounds Prospects for Hockey’s Return

Tim Perry, Jamestown’s chief investment officer, expressed confidence about the location’s potential to host a hockey team.

“We think this is a great location for an NHL team and, hopefully, our efforts will attract an owner who wants to acquire an expansion team and bring hockey back to Atlanta,”

Perry said, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting the city’s sports landscape.

Significance of the Redevelopment Effort

This project reflects a strategic move to revive professional hockey in Atlanta through targeted development and collaboration among prominent real estate and sports venue experts. Should the plan succeed, the redevelopment of North Point Mall could serve as a cornerstone in establishing an NHL presence, drawing fans and economic activity to the region in the near future.
