The Minnesota Wild have stepped back from pursuing Vincent Trocheck as the 2026 NHL trade deadline approaches, focusing their efforts elsewhere. Teams across the league remain active in trade talks, but Minnesota’s priorities appear to be shifting despite earlier interest in the New York Rangers center.
Recent Moves Signal Change in Wild’s Trade Strategy
Minnesota completed several acquisitions recently, including Quinn Hughes, Michael McCarron, Bobby Brink, and Nick Foligno, aiming to strengthen their roster before the deadline. Trocheck, however, no longer seems to be a viable target for the Wild, according to reporting from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. Despite Minnesota’s search for additional center depth, the organization appears to be moving on from the Rangers’ player.
High Asking Price and Limited Need Affect Trade Prospects
The New York Rangers have set a steep price for Trocheck, indicating no urgency to trade him before the deadline. While Minnesota acquired McCarron recently, they still seek center reinforcements. Although Foligno has some experience at center, it is not his main role. Other contenders like the Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes—both connected to Trocheck through past affiliations—remain interested in acquiring the center, but any deal would require a substantial package.
Wild’s Outlook as Trade Deadline Nears
With only hours remaining until the deadline, Minnesota is prioritizing other options to complement their Stanley Cup aspirations. The team’s willingness to adjust their focus suggests an effort to maximize roster improvements without overextending on demanding trades. Whether the Wild will still make a noteworthy move remains uncertain, but current developments make a deal involving Vincent Trocheck unlikely.
All indications are the #mnwild are out on Vinny Trocheck. Focus shifting elsewhere for #NYR.
