Vincent Trocheck (born July 11, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey player who plays center and serves as an alternate captain for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round, 64th overall, of the 2011 NHL entry draft and has played in the NHL since 2013. Across his career, Trocheck has skated for the Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Rangers, building a reputation as a reliable two-way center.
Early Life and Background
Vincent Trocheck was born on July 11, 1993, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in the city surrounded by a passionate hockey community. He played minor ice hockey for the Pittsburgh Hornets until he was 13 years old and also competed with the Hornets in the 2006 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. His Slovak and Italian family roots helped shape his identity as a young player.
At the age of 13, Trocheck moved to Detroit with his father in an effort to attract the attention of scouts. While in Detroit, he learned about the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and began attending Plymouth Whalers games, which set him on a clear developmental path.
Path to Hockey
Trocheck joined the Detroit Little Caesars AAA team for the 2006–07 season and stayed with the program for three consecutive years. During that stretch, he played in the 2008 Port Huron Silver Stick tournament and was named to the Bantam All-Star team. With the Whalers, Trocheck recorded 26 goals and 33 assists for 59 points in 28 games and was recognized as the OHL’s Player of the Week in the final week of the regular season. He became the first Plymouth player in a decade to score 50 goals and won both the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy and the Red Tilson Trophy as the OHL’s top scorer.
