Brandon Saad is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on October 27, 1992, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he has built a reputation as a reliable two-way winger since entering the league in 2011. A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, Saad has also suited up for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, and St. Louis Blues over the course of his career.

Early Life and Background
Saad was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to a Syrian father, George Sr., and an American mother, Sandy. He grew up in the nearby community of Gibsonia, where he first laced up the skates that would shape his future. From an early age, hockey was a central part of his household, and he and his older brother spent countless hours on the ice together.
Saad played minor hockey for the Pittsburgh Hornets in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. While with the U14 Hornets during the 2005–06 season, he produced 16 goals and 21 assists through 30 games. He also represented the Hornets at the 2005 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament and at the 2007 USA Hockey National Championship. During the 2007–08 season, Saad split time with the U18 Hornets and the Pine-Richland High Rams, where he played alongside his older brother.
With the U18 Hornets, Saad set a program record with 54 goals and 124 points in a single season. As a freshman with Pine-Richland High School, he ranked sixth on the team with eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points. He was also recognized as a Pittsburgh North Hockey All-Star during that period.
Path to Hockey
Although Saad was scouted by the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, he turned down the NTDP for the 2008–09 season and was instead drafted by the Saginaw Spirit in the first round of the 2008 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft. Rather than joining the Spirit immediately, Saad and his older brother played the 2008–09 season with the Mahoning Valley Phantoms in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).
While with the Phantoms, Saad was selected to represent the United States under-17 team at the 2009 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He helped the U.S. U17 team win a bronze medal and was named to the tournament all-star team. He finished his rookie season with 29 goals and 18 assists over 47 games, earning NAHL Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the First All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team.
For the 2009–10 season, Saad joined the NTDP, where he recorded 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points. He then joined the Saginaw Spirit for the 2010–11 OHL season. Early Career (2011–2013)
After impressing the Blackhawks’ coaching staff in training camp, Saad signed a three-year entry-level contract on October 4, 2011. He made his NHL debut on October 7, 2011, against the Dallas Stars before being reassigned to Saginaw. Upon returning to the Spirit, he led the OHL with 10 points in three games and was named CHL Player of the Week. He finished the OHL season with 34 goals and 42 assists for 76 points in 44 games, becoming the first American-born player since 1993 to win the William Hanley Trophy as the OHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player.
Recalled by the Blackhawks for the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, Saad made his playoff debut on April 19, 2012, and scored his first career NHL point with an assist on a goal by Nick Leddy. He opened the 2017–18 season with a hat-trick against the Pittsburgh Penguins, setting a franchise record for most goals in a season opener. He finished that season with 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points in 82 games. In 2018–19, he recorded 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points in 79 games, including two goals in his 500th career NHL game on February 1, 2019.
On October 10, 2020, Saad was traded to the Colorado Avalanche. He struggled early in 2022–23 but broke out with five goals and two assists in four games after being placed on a line with Brayden Schenn and Ivan Barbashev.
