United States women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes shared critical injury news during Tuesday’s MD-1 press briefing before the SheBelieves Cup match versus Canada. Hayes confirmed that forward Trinity Rodman was cleared to train after a concerning collision, while defender Lilly Reale left the camp due to a foot injury.
Trinity Rodman Cleared for Training After Collision Against Argentina
Trinity Rodman, recently re-signed by the Washington Spirit, was involved in a frightening incident during Sunday’s game against Argentina. Rodman appeared to grab her back after the collision, a serious area for her given a previous injury in 2025. Although she was attended to by team staff on the field, Rodman managed to walk off unassisted but did not return for the final moments. Hayes had not been able to provide an update immediately after the game but confirmed Rodman is now fully cleared and training with the team.
Lilly Reale’s Foot Injury Forces Early Departure from Camp
Defender Lilly Reale suffered a foot injury in the same match against Argentina and subsequently left the U.S. camp to rejoin her National Women’s Soccer League club, NJ/NY Gotham FC. Reale started Sunday’s match but was substituted out in the 62nd minute for Rodman. According to tournament rules, no replacement will be made for Reale since the competition is already underway.
Additional Defender Exits Prior to Tournament Start
Reale is the third defender to exit the SheBelieves Cup roster this year. Previously, Washington Spirit’s Kate Wiesner withdrew due to a minor calf injury and was replaced by Houston Dash’s Avery Patterson. Similarly, Seattle Reign’s Jordyn Bugg left because of a hamstring issue, with Angel City’s Emily Sams taking her spot. Both Wiesner and Bugg left before the tournament began, allowing for official replacements.
Upcoming Challenge Against Canada at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field
The U.S. women’s national team faces a significant challenge next against Canada on March 4 at 6:45 p.m. ET at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Columbus, Ohio. Canada started SheBelieves Cup play strongly with a 4-1 win over Colombia, breaking a five-month streak without scoring and ending a five-game winless run.
