Las Vegas Fighter Giovanna Canuto Eyes UFC Breakthrough This Year

Giovanna Canuto, a 23-year-old mixed martial artist based in Las Vegas, is steadily making a name for herself in the MMA world with her determined pursuit of a UFC debut. Having relocated from Manaus, Brazil, to Las Vegas at the age of 14, she has dedicated nearly a decade to building her fighting career amid challenges and strong competition.

Early Challenges and the Nickname “Diamond”

When Canuto first arrived in Las Vegas, her coaches recognized her resilience and potential, giving her the nickname “Diamond.” She recalls overcoming skepticism throughout her early fights, sharing,

“I was a little girl from Manaus, they were like this girl’s not supposed to win and I would win and then they would be like this girl’s not supposed to win and I would win. So, then my coach started to say the more a fight is not supposed to go my way, the better I perform,”

Canuto said.

Progress and Success in Legacy Fighting Alliance

Currently competing in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, a recognized feeder organization for the UFC, Canuto has compiled a professional record of 7-1. Her recent performances have been particularly impressive, with her last four bouts all ending in finishes. Reflecting on her training and growth, she noted,

“I’m really grateful for the trainings that I’ve had here; it really built who I am today,”

highlighting her gratitude and development as a fighter.

Determination to Inspire and Achieve

Canuto’s ultimate goal remains clear: to secure a spot in the UFC and continue to prove herself on the biggest stage. Yet, her mission goes beyond personal success.

“That’s all I want to do is to motivate those kids from Manaus to see it’s possible to come all the way over here and do bigger things than circumstances were giving them,”

Canuto expressed, emphasizing her desire to inspire youth facing challenging backgrounds to dream big and pursue their ambitions.

What Lies Ahead for Canuto

As Canuto prepares for more fights in 2024, her focus on improving her skills and gaining exposure in the Legacy Fighting Alliance will be crucial stepping stones toward the UFC. With a support system of coaches and a growing professional record, her journey represents not only personal determination but also a beacon of hope for aspiring fighters from Brazil and beyond. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if Canuto can translate her early momentum into success at the highest level of MMA competition.
