Michael Chandler Eyes New White House Fight After McGregor Snub

Michael Chandler continues to believe that he will appear at the upcoming White House UFC event in June despite recent developments. Initially, there was widespread speculation that Chandler, known as ‘Iron,’ might headline the card in a high-profile matchup against Conor McGregor. However, UFC president Dana White recently suggested that McGregor is not interested in facing Chandler, casting doubt on the fight’s likelihood.

Nevertheless, Chandler has not dismissed the possibility entirely. He indicated that although a bout with McGregor may not materialize, he is focused on another significant fight that could define his next steps in the promotion.

Chandler’s Focus Shifts to Max Holloway’s BMF Title Defense

With Michael Chandler expected to feature at the UFC White House card, his presence makes strategic sense for the promotion, especially since the roster of top American fighters available for this historic event is limited. Fighters like Justin Gaethje, fresh off an interim lightweight title win against Paddy Pimblett, are prime candidates. However, Kayla Harrison’s recent neck injury clouds her availability.

Max Holloway, currently holding the BMF (Baddest Mother F****r) title and widely popular among fans, presents another intriguing option. Although Holloway represents Hawaii, the 50th state, the UFC may view him as a fitting candidate for this major event.

Holloway is scheduled to defend his BMF championship in a rematch against Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 next month, a bout that has captured Chandler’s attention.

“I got my eye on that one, because I think Max gets the win,”

Chandler told MMA Junkie.

“I think Oliveira is coming off a pretty devastating knockout and turned around real quick, jumped into another training camp. I got my eyes set on that BMF belt if Max wins, so we’ll see.”

Reactions to Former Opponent’s Callout for a Rematch

Michael Chandler’s UFC tenure began with considerable promise, highlighted by his knockout win over Dan Hooker in 2021 after signing from Bellator. He also served as a backup fighter for UFC 254, displaying the promotion’s confidence in him. Recently, Hooker called for a rematch with Chandler at the White House event following his recent loss at UFC 325.

Chandler responded cautiously to Hooker’s challenge, expressing uncertainty about how serious the callout truly is.

“I saw him do that after another fight,”

Chandler told MMA Junkie.

“It’s almost like he makes these funny callouts, like maybe he’s serious, maybe he’s not, and he kind of makes fun of himself talking about being on the prelims and stuff. So, he’s a character, man. If you don’t like Dan Hooker, I don’t know if you like MMA.”

Potential Impact and Future Outlook for Chandler at the UFC White House Card

Michael Chandler’s pursuit of a major fight at the White House MMA event highlights his continued ambition to remain a compelling contender on the UFC roster. Though a showdown with Conor McGregor appears unlikely for now, the prospect of challenging for the BMF title following Holloway’s next defense offers a clear path forward.

As highly anticipated fights unfold at UFC 326, Chandler’s plans will likely hinge on those outcomes. His ability to secure a spotlight bout at the White House showcase could further solidify his standing in the lightweight division and enhance the event’s appeal among fans.
