Charles Oliveira Hints at Featherweight Return for Big Fight

Charles Oliveira is contemplating a potential return to the featherweight division at 145 pounds, though this would depend on the right opportunity. Currently, Oliveira centers his attention on the lightweight category, with a high-stakes fight scheduled against Max Holloway. This bout, set for March 7 at UFC 326, will feature the BMF Championship on the line.

Comments on Weight Class Challenges and Legacy-Driven Decisions

During a recent fan question-and-answer session, Oliveira addressed the possibility of dropping to featherweight once more. He expressed uncertainty about making the 145-pound limit, acknowledging the physical difficulty involved. Oliveira also mentioned that moving up to welterweight might be an easier option than returning to featherweight. However, a fight that could enhance his legacy, such as one against Conor McGregor, would make the drop more appealing.

“Sometimes I think about talking to the bosses and dropping to 145, but I don’t know if I can make 145 anymore,”

Oliveira said.

“I don’t know… I think moving up to 170 would be easier. I’m not sure I can make 145 anymore. If there were a fight with Conor McGregor, something good for my legacy and my story, that would be cool, but the full focus right now is lightweight. Win now and get another shot at the title.”

He further shared that a major fight would be necessary to motivate him to attempt the challenging weight cut again.

“I think I can still make 145,”

Oliveira added.

“If it’s for the title… I don’t know if it was a dream I just had or something from my imagination. I win the [BMF] belt now, I fight for the [lightweight] title at the end of the year, then I give up both titles and drop to 145 to fight for that belt. But I don’t know if I was dreaming or just going crazy. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Weight Management Has Been a Past Obstacle for Oliveira

Oliveira’s history includes multiple occasions when he struggled to make featherweight, often missing weight before bouts. This past difficulty creates doubt regarding his ability to manage the strict requirements if he opts to return. Despite these concerns, he left the door open for a comeback, contingent on the significance of the matchup.

Upcoming Fight and Future Prospects for Oliveira

Oliveira’s immediate efforts are concentrated on his clash with Max Holloway, which carries major implications for both fighters. Capturing the BMF Championship could position Oliveira for another title opportunity in lightweight. Whether or not he ultimately returns to featherweight remains uncertain, but his openness to such a move signals a willingness to explore significant fights that could define his career trajectory.
