Hannibal’s Youth Pickleball Camp: Register Now for July 8 Launch

Hannibal’s Youth Pickleball Camp: In Quincy, Illinois, Hannibal is set to host a youth pickleball camp this summer, reflecting the sport’s rapid growth across the United States, particularly among younger demographics.

The Hannibal Pickleball Club, in partnership with Hannibal Parks & Recreation, has organised this camp to impart essential pickleball skills to young enthusiasts. The program aims to cover fundamental techniques, game rules, and strategies, all taught by seasoned players.

Bill Baker, a prominent figure in the local pickleball scene, observed that many young people frequent the Huckleberry Park courts. However, he noted a common gap in their understanding of the game’s rules. “We saw a lot of kids playing, but they often didn’t know the rules,” Baker explained. “We thought, if kids want to get involved, they need proper instruction.”

The camp’s curriculum includes drills, games, and friendly competitions, all designed to build a solid foundation in the sport. Baker emphasised the importance of this foundation for advancing in pickleball, predicting that high schools will soon adopt competitive pickleball teams, following the lead of colleges.

“Everyone talks about pickleball being for senior citizens, but I really see that changing. It’s for everyone,” Baker said, highlighting the sport’s universal appeal. He noted that children, regardless of age or gender, are enjoying the game.

Scheduled from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. on July 8, 9, and 10, the camp will take place at the Huckleberry Park courts. The registration fee is $35, which includes a pickleball set featuring two paddles, four pickleballs, and a carrying case. Additionally, participants will be provided with water and snacks throughout the camp.

This initiative by the Hannibal Pickleball Club and Hannibal Parks & Recreation underscores the inclusive and growing nature of pickleball, aiming to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge to enjoy and excel in this rapidly expanding sport.
