Sycamore’s Pickleball Revolution: West Elementary’s Parking Lot Gets a Sporty Makeover!

West Elementary’s Pickleball Transformation: The Sycamore Parks Foundation announced new projects to improve pickleball access in Sycamore. As part of its “Play It Forward” initiative, the foundation will add a windscreen to Reston Ponds Park’s pickleball court and help transform West Elementary’s parking lot into outdoor courts.

New Improvements for Pickleball Players

The “Play It Forward” initiative was created to remove financial barriers and give more people access to parks and recreation. The latest efforts will focus on making pickleball more available and enjoyable for the community. At Reston Ponds Park, a windscreen will be added to the pickleball court. Meanwhile, West Elementary School’s parking lot will be turned into outdoor courts for public use.

Foundation’s Ongoing Community Efforts

The initiative supports projects within the Sycamore Park District boundaries. In 2024, it helped improve Israel of God Church’s park by funding tree trimming for safety and comfort. It also offers financial aid for families to join Sycamore Park District programs and memberships, helping more people enjoy recreational opportunities.

Community Leaders Share Their Vision

Sycamore Parks Foundation president Ed Valdez said in a news release,

“Making connections is at the heart of everything we do. Every child deserves a place to play, and every family should have access to spaces that foster joy, wellness and belonging. ‘Play It Forward’ is our promise to overcome barriers and create more opportunities for meaningful connections across our community.” – (Ed Valdez)

Impact on Sycamore’s Pickleball Scene

These changes will offer new spaces for pickleball players of all ages. By adding courts and improving existing facilities, the foundation hopes to bring more families together through recreation. The efforts show the city’s commitment to wellness and building strong community ties.
