Clarksburg’s New Pickleball Courts: Progress is steadily marching forward at Veterans Memorial Park, where the eagerly anticipated pickleball courts are nearing completion. City Parks Superintendent Doug Comer provided an update, highlighting the imminent addition of 11 new courts expected by mid-August.
Final Construction Stages
“We’re almost there,” Comer remarked, emphasizing the final stages of the construction process. Paving work on the courts has been successfully completed this week, with an additional layer of sand applied to enhance traction, particularly in dry conditions.
Despite weather-related delays earlier this year and adjustments in subcontractors, Comer expressed satisfaction with the project’s current pace. “Once the pouring began, we were able to move ahead swiftly,” he noted.
Upcoming Steps
Next in line are the installation of perimeter fencing, followed by the application of acrylic surfacing slated for one to two weeks after the Fourth of July. The courts themselves will sport a vibrant blue hue with white striping, surrounded by green outer areas.
Looking ahead optimistically, Comer anticipates the possibility of completing the project ahead of schedule by early August, although mid-August remains a conservative estimate.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring county and city officials will mark the completion of the pickleball courts, followed by an inaugural match to celebrate this exciting addition to the community’s recreational offerings.
Enhanced Playground Facilities
In tandem with the pickleball court project, plans are also underway to enhance playground facilities at three city parks—Hartland Playground, Glenwood Hill, and Glen Elk. New playground equipment, designed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, is expected to be installed by fall, following the resolution of current contractor commitments.
“The only problem we’ve had this year was the weather obviously hampered us, and trying to get all things in line and the general contractor switched out some of the subcontractors on some of the jobs. It’s just that the whole early process takes forever, digging up and landscaping to make the area ready for it. but once the pour came we were ready to rock and roll,” Comer said
As construction progresses, the community eagerly awaits the transformation of Veterans Memorial Park into a premier destination for both pickleball enthusiasts and families enjoying updated playground facilities.
