Steamboat Will Host UPA Amateur Pickleball: In a significant announcement, the United Pickleball Association (UPA) has revealed plans to stage the Colorado United Pickleball State Championship Series from September 13-15. This premier event will unfold at the state-of-the-art pickleball center recently unveiled within the Steamboat Springs Tennis and Pickleball Complex in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The Colorado UPA State Championships aim to showcase the nation’s finest amateur pickleball players, while also contributing 100% of tournament proceeds to support local youth pickleball outreach initiatives through the Steamboat Springs Pickleball Association and Stop Alzheimer’s Now. Stop Alzheimer’s Now is dedicated to advancing Alzheimer’s disease research, funding innovative studies aimed at discovering a solution.
The newly constructed pickleball center spans an impressive 35,000 square feet and features 12 state-of-the-art indoor courts with cushioned surfaces. Complete with a pro shop and a dedicated mezzanine level for tournament viewing and entertainment, the facility represents a $12 million investment. Breaking ground in 2023, the center opened its doors in July and promises to elevate pickleball standards in Colorado.
Jayson Harris, Director of Pickleball at the Steamboat Tennis & Pickleball Complex, expressed great honor in hosting a national tournament of such magnitude at their new pickleball facility. He emphasized that Colorado has never before hosted a championship pickleball series of this scale, underscoring their enthusiasm to welcome players from across the state to Steamboat.

Participants will compete across various skill levels including 3.0 to 5.0 and multiple age categories ranging from 18U to 70+, in events such as singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Winners at each level will earn the prestigious title of UPA State Champion and secure eligibility for the elite champions division at the UPA World Championships scheduled at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas from November 4-10, 2024.
