Pickleball Event at Stafford Park: Gearing up for a day of community celebration and friendly competition with the addition of a pickleball event at Stafford Park to its annual Party in the Park event on Saturday, July 27. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., families can enjoy a bustling lineup of activities at Stafford Park, located at 641 Third Ave.
This year’s festivities include something for everyone: a vibrant vendor show, the adventurous RY-J’s Adventures bouncy castle, a mouthwslip-and-slideatering barbecue lunch, a thrilling fire department obstacle course, and a refreshing slip and slide for the kids. Attendees can also look forward to raffles, the prestigious Junior Gardeners awards ceremony, face painting, and cooling off at the splash pad. A new highlight this year is the introduction of an exciting pickleball tournament. The event is licensed, ensuring a day of fun in a safe environment.
The day kicks off with the highly anticipated judging of the 8th Annual Junior Gardeners Competition. Youth aged 16 and under, from both within and outside Laurentian Valley, have been nurturing their green thumbs, competing to grow the best plant over the past month. Navada Sargent, the township’s recreation coordinator, expressed gratitude to Sunset Nursery Garden Centre and Greenhouses, especially Alastair Hugli, for their continued support in judging the competition. A total of 155 young gardeners have registered to showcase their gardening prowess this year.
“A big thank you to Sunset Nursery Garden Centre and Greenhouses, in particular Alastair Hugli, who will once again judge the competition,”
-(Navada Sargent)
Last year’s Junior Gardeners Competition saw impressive winners across various age categories, with Terry Mowat (Zinnia Flower), Everlie Parr (Zinnia Flower), Leah MacEwan (Cherry Tomato Plant), and Aaryanna Forget-Mask (Zinnia Flower) securing 1st place honors.
