Chris Haworth Defeats Federico Staksrud: Federico Staksrud will not contend for a men’s singles title for the first time this year. He had reached Championship Sunday in ten straight tournaments at the start of 2024. However on Thursday, his impressive streak ended. Chris Haworth defeated him in the semifinals, stopping his run.
Haworth had an exceptional day, securing a series of impressive wins on his way to the semifinals. As the No. 22 seed, he maintained his strong performance against Staksrud, showcasing both power and precision. This allowed him to achieve a swift 11-6, 11-2 victory.
“I just kind of went for my shots, hit some lines, and got lucky on a few net cords. But I think to beat the best players in the world, you have to get a little lucky, so I’ll take it.” – (Haworth)
With this win, Haworth secures a place in his first Championship Sunday on the PPA Tour. He will compete against Ben Johns, who comfortably defeated Dylan Frazier to reach the final.
Haworth won the last time they met at the 2023 National Championships. But he’s concentrating on staying in the present, no matter what happens in the final.
“I’m just excited to be in this position and am just gonna try and have fun and enjoy the moment.” – (Haworth)
