Adin Hill is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hill was selected by the Arizona Coyotes, 76th overall, in the 2015 NHL entry draft. He has also played with the San Jose Sharks. As their starting goaltender, Hill won the Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023.

Early Life and Background

Adin Hill was born on May 11, 1996, in Comox, British Columbia, Canada. Growing up in a region known for its natural beauty, Hill developed an interest in sports at a young age. His early exposure to hockey came through local leagues, where he honed his skills and passion for the game. Hill played bantam junior hockey with the Calgary Bisons before later developing at the midget level with the Calgary Buffaloes in the Alberta Midget Hockey League. He spent the duration of the 2013–14 season with the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League before ending the season playing four games of major junior hockey with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League.
In the 2014–15 season, Hill played the entirety of the season with the Portland Winterhawks, where he achieved a remarkable 31–11–1 record and a league-best .921 save percentage. His impressive performance led to his selection in the third round, 76th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2015 NHL entry draft.

Path to Hockey

Following his draft, Adin Hill began his professional career when he signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes on April 6, 2016. During the 2016–17 season, he played for two of the Coyotes’ affiliates, the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL. Hill began the 2017–18 season with the Roadrunners but was recalled by the Coyotes on October 16, 2017. He made his NHL debut the following day, stopping 31 shots in a 3–1 loss to the Dallas Stars, making him the first goaltender selected in the 2015 draft to appear in an NHL game.
Hill recorded his first career win on March 13, 2018, in a 4–3 shootout victory over the Los Angeles Kings. He continued to show promise in the following seasons, earning recognition and accolades, including being named the NHL Second Star of the week for the week of December 3, 2018, after posting a 3–0–0 record.

In the pandemic-delayed 2020–21 season, Hill appeared in 19 games for Arizona, earning a 9–9–1 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.74 goals-against average, along with two shutouts. He co-led Arizona goaltenders in shutouts and led in save percentage, setting a career-high in games played.
On July 17, 2021, Hill was traded to the San Jose Sharks due to expansion draft considerations, where he signed a two-year contract. He recorded a two-assist game on November 9, 2021, in a 4–1 win over the Calgary Flames, showcasing his versatility as a goaltender.

Breakthrough (2023–present)

Hill’s breakthrough moment came when he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights on August 29, 2022. Initially acquired to serve as a backup, Hill found himself in the starting role due to injuries to the team’s goaltenders. He finished the regular season with a 16–7–1 record and a .915 save percentage. The Golden Knights entered the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs as the top seed in the Western Conference. After taking over the net due to an injury to the starting goaltender, Hill led the team to victory over the Edmonton Oilers and reached the Western Conference final against the Dallas Stars. He allowed only twelve goals in the six-game series against Dallas, including two shutouts.
The Golden Knights advanced to the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, where Hill gained recognition for a remarkable paddle save in the series opener, dubbed “the save of the playoffs”. The Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in five games, marking a significant achievement in Hill’s career. Following the season, he signed a two-year, $9.8 million extension to remain with the Golden Knights.
