He attended Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia, where he played for the Peachtree Ridge Lions high school football team. During his senior year, he was recognized as the 2006 Georgia Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year, contributing to his team’s tie for the state championship. He recorded over 100 tackles and 16 sacks in his final high school season and was regarded as a scholar athlete with a GPA of 3.2.

After high school, Cameron Heyward played college football at Ohio State University from 2007 to 2010.
