Deontay Burnett was born on October 4, 1997, in Compton, California. He attended Junípero Serra High School in Gardena, California, where he was rated as a three-star recruit. Burnett began his college career at USC in 2015, appearing in all but two games as a true freshman. He finished his first year with 10 receptions for 161 yards.
