At the University of Iowa, King played under head coach Kirk Ferentz. He made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2013, appearing in all 13 games and starting 12, becoming the first true freshman to start at defensive back for Iowa since 2002. King continued to excel in his sophomore year, starting all 13 games and recording 64 tackles and three interceptions.
