Haggai Ndubuisi was born in Lagos, Nigeria, where he grew up playing soccer and basketball. His interest in American football sparked at the age of 18 when he watched a YouTube video showcasing the NFL’s best hits. Inspired by the excitement of the game, he began to practice football techniques with friends on local fields, despite having little knowledge of the sport. Ndubuisi faced significant challenges due to the lack of football infrastructure in Nigeria, often training alone as he pursued his passion. In 2021, he was discovered by Ejike Ugboaja, co-leader of UpRise Academy, which aims to identify and develop African football talent. This opportunity marked a turning point in Ndubuisi’s life, leading him to intensive training and exposure to the sport. After six months of dedicated practice, he was invited to an NFL camp in London in late 2021, where he further honed his skills under the guidance of former NFL offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley.
