He played college basketball for the Cal Poly Mustangs and the Nevada Wolf Pack. Sanders is known for his scoring ability and has made significant contributions to his teams throughout his career.

Kobe Michael Sanders was born in Spring Valley, California. He attended Christian High School in San Diego, where he began to hone his basketball skills. During his senior season, he averaged 16.7 points and five rebounds per game, showcasing his potential as a player. His performance in high school led him to commit to playing college basketball for Cal Poly.

Sanders played for the Cal Poly Mustangs from 2020 to 2024. Over his four-year career, he appeared in 100 games, starting 71 of them. He achieved a career-high of 35 points in a single game and earned All-Big West Honorable Mention honors after averaging 19.6 points per game in his final season. In December 2023, he set a school record for the most free throws made in a game without a miss, making all 17 attempts against CSUN.
