Kyle Mangas was born on April 8, 1999, in Warsaw, Indiana. He grew up in a family that valued sports, particularly basketball, as his father, Tim Mangas, was a notable player at Wawasee High School. Kyle played for Warsaw Community High School, where he excelled on the basketball court, leading his team to a remarkable 61–17 record over three seasons. He scored 47 points in a single game against East Chicago Central High School during his senior year and finished his high school career with 1,450 points, ranking fourth in school history.
Mangas decided to pursue college basketball at Indiana Wesleyan University, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II program, in April 2017. His choice was influenced by the strong connection he felt with the coaching staff and players at Indiana Wesleyan.

During his freshman year at Indiana Wesleyan, Kyle Mangas made an immediate impact, averaging 21.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. He played a crucial role in leading the team to the 2018 NAIA Division II Tournament championship, where he was named the Most Outstanding Player. His performance earned him the Crossroads League Player of the Year award, making him the first freshman to achieve this honor. Mangas also set a single-season school record with 818 points.
In his sophomore season, he continued to shine, averaging 23.6 points per game and repeating as the Crossroads League Player of the Year.
