Luke Richard Maile is an American professional baseball catcher who is currently a free agent. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Guardians, Cincinnati Reds, and Kansas City Royals. Before embarking on his professional career, Maile showcased his baseball talents at Covington Catholic High School and the University of Kentucky.

Luke Maile was born on February 6, 1991, in Park Hills, Kentucky, USA. Growing up in a sports-oriented family, he was influenced by his father, Rich Maile, who played football at the University of Kentucky and the University of Dayton. His mother, Laurie Maile, supported his athletic pursuits, and he has two brothers and two sisters. Maile attended Covington Catholic High School, where he made a significant impact on the baseball field, setting multiple school records for batting average, on-base percentage, hits, walks, runs scored, runs batted in, doubles, and triples. His exceptional performance earned him recognition as The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Player of the Year three times and the title of Kentucky’s Mr. Baseball during his senior year, culminating in his graduation in 2009.
Path to Baseball
After high school, Luke Maile chose to further his baseball career at the University of Kentucky, where he played for the Kentucky Wildcats. During his collegiate career, he excelled, winning the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Week Award twice and earning All-SEC Second Team honors. In 2012, he was a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, hitting .319 with 12 home runs and 9 stolen bases in 62 games. Following his successful college career, Maile was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the eighth round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

Early Career (2015-2016)
Luke Maile began his professional career with the Tampa Bay Rays, making his MLB debut on September 1, 2015. He played in 15 games during his rookie season, recording a batting average of .171 with two runs batted in. In 2016, he split time between the Rays and the Durham Bulls, appearing in 42 games for the Rays and hitting .227 with three home runs and 15 RBIs. Despite a promising start, the Rays designated him for assignment in April 2017.
Breakthrough (2017-2019)
Maile’s career took a turn when he was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays on April 6, 2017. He was recalled from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons later that month and played as a backup catcher. In 2018, he had a solid season, hitting .248 with three home runs and 27 RBIs. However, injuries limited his appearances in 2019, and he finished the season with a .151 batting average and two home runs. After the season, he became a free agent.
Notable Works and Milestones
Throughout his career, Luke Maile has played for several teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit .300 in 15 games, and the Cleveland Guardians, where he contributed to the team’s postseason run with his first postseason hit.
