He has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, and Birmingham Stallions.

Early Life and Background

Nate Brooks was born in Tyler, Texas. He attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, where he played as a quarterback, cornerback, and free safety for the Whitehouse Wildcats. During his junior season, he recorded four interceptions and 53 tackles, which earned him first-team all-district 16-4A selection honors. Brooks also served as team captain. In his senior season, he earned all-district 16-5A second-team honors and was named to the 2014 East Texas Football Super Team Second-Team by East Texas Sports News. Additionally, Brooks was a two-sport athlete, playing as an outfielder on the Wildcats baseball team. Rated a three-star football recruiting prospect by 247Sports, he received offers from Louisiana Tech and North Texas. Brooks committed to play for North Texas after accepting their offer in June 2013, graduating from high school in 2015.

Path to American Football

Nate Brooks joined the North Texas Mean Green football team in 2015. He played in all 10 games during his freshman season, starting in the last seven games and recording a career-high 11 tackles against UTSA. By the end of the season, he tallied 38 tackles. In 2016, he made his first start against Southern Methodist University (SMU), finishing the season with 57 total tackles and earning a Defensive Player of the Week honor for his performance against Southern Miss. Brooks was recognized as an All-Conference USA Honorable Mention that year. In 2017, he was a preseason All-Conference USA selection and started eight games, finishing with 31 tackles. Despite injuries that affected his performance, Brooks had a strong senior season in 2018, recording six interceptions, 67 tackles, and ten pass break-ups, earning Second Team All-Conference USA honors and being a runner-up for the Jim Thorpe Award. He graduated from North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies in 2019.

Early Career (2019)

Following the conclusion of the 2019 NFL Draft, Nate Brooks signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. He was later signed to the New England Patriots practice squad on September 10, 2019. On December 10, 2019, he was signed by the Miami Dolphins from the Patriots practice squad. However, he was waived/injured during final roster cuts on September 5, 2020, and reverted to the team’s injured reserve list the following day.

Breakthrough (2020-2023)
