He attended Stevens Point Area Senior High School, where he played high school football and earned First Team All-State honors from the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association in 2011. Despite receiving a scholarship offer from the University of Pittsburgh, he chose to enroll at Winona State University, a Division II school in Minnesota.
