He grew up in a family with a strong basketball background, which influenced his early interest in the sport. Thompson attended Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California, where he excelled on the basketball team. He was recognized as the CIF Southern Section Division IV High School Player of the Year and set several school records, including career points (2,246) and season scoring average (24.4). After a successful high school career, Thompson moved on to play college basketball for the Oregon State Beavers from 2015 to 2019. He played in three games for the team before moving to the Erie BayHawks, where he signed on February 4, 2020. However, his time with the BayHawks was brief, as he played only one game before being waived. Following this, he signed with Stella Azzurra Roma in Italy, where he had a standout season, averaging 21.4 points per game and leading the league in steals.

Breakthrough (2021–Present)

After his successful stint in Italy, Thompson returned to the United States and signed with the Vaqueros de Bayamón in Puerto Rico for the 2021–2022 season.
