Taran Armstrong Bio
Taran Armstrong is an Australian professional basketball player for Dubai Basketball of the ABA League and the EuroLeague. He played two seasons of college basketball in the United States for the California Baptist Lancers before joining the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 2023. After two seasons with the Taipans, he joined the Golden State Warriors in February 2025 and finished the 2024–25 season with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA G League.
Early Life and Background
Taran Armstrong was born on 15 January 2002 in Burnie, Tasmania, Australia. He began playing organized basketball at a young age, inspired by watching his father, Benjamin Armstrong, and uncle compete in the North West Basketball Union. Armstrong attended Marist Regional College in Burnie, where he played for both Burnie and Wynyard in the North West Basketball Union. In mid-2018, he moved to Canberra after being awarded an NBA Global Academy scholarship with Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence. He spent three years with the BA Centre of Excellence, where he played in various leagues and helped Tasmania secure a bronze medal at the 2020 Under 20 National Championships, averaging 25 points per game.
Path to Basketball
In November 2020, Taran Armstrong signed with the North-West Tasmania Thunder for the 2021 NBL1 season. During his time with the Thunder, he averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Following this, he signed with the California Baptist Lancers for the 2021–22 season, where he joined his older brother Tre. As a freshman, Armstrong made a significant impact, starting 25 of 26 games and averaging 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. He became the first freshman in the program’s history to be named WAC Freshman of the Year.
