Taran Armstrong Bio
Taran Armstrong (born 15 January 2002) is an Australian professional basketball player who most recently played for Dubai Basketball of the ABA League and the EuroLeague. A point guard listed at 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) and 190 lb (86 kg), he has competed across Australian state leagues, American college basketball, the National Basketball League (NBL), and the NBA G League. Armstrong is also an Australian Boomers representative, having featured in FIBA Under-17, Under-19, and senior qualifiers.
Born and raised in Burnie, Tasmania, Armstrong earned a reputation as a pass-first floor general with the size of a wing. He first drew national attention in the United States with the California Baptist Lancers, where he set program records as a freshman and sophomore. Taran Armstrong was born in Burnie, Tasmania, on 15 January 2002, the son of Benjamin and Melanie Armstrong. Path to Professional Basketball
In November 2020, Armstrong signed with the North-West Tasmania Thunder of the NBL1 South for the 2021 NBL1 season. College Career (2021–2023)
Armstrong’s freshman campaign produced a series of program firsts. He recorded California Baptist’s first-ever triple-double with 16 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds against San Jose State on 18 November 2021, and he broke the school’s single-game assists record with 15 against North Dakota on 7 December. He and his brother Tre helped the Lancers to an 18–16 record, the program’s first WAC Freshman of the Year, and a growing reputation as a creative left-handed point guard.
As a sophomore in 2022–23, Armstrong started all 33 games and led California Baptist in scoring (11.3 points per game) and assists (5.0 per game), while also leading the WAC in assists per game for a second consecutive season. On 17 May 2023, Armstrong signed a two-year contract with the Cairns Taipans of the NBL. On 25 February 2025, Armstrong signed a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first Tasmanian to sign with an NBA organization.
