Tarik Black (born February 10, 1998) is an American professional football wide receiver. He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines and Texas Longhorns. He has also been a member of the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, and Baltimore Ravens.

Early Life and Background

Tarik Black was born in Hamden, Connecticut. He attended Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut, where he developed his skills as a football player. Black was recognized as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 81 high school player in the country by ESPN. He was also the top recruit in Connecticut and received an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. In December 2016, he committed to play college football at the University of Michigan during a Facebook live broadcast.

Path to American Football

Black enrolled early at the University of Michigan in January 2017, participating in the spring practice where he impressed coaches and observers. He made his collegiate debut on September 2, 2017, starting at wide receiver against Florida. In that game, he scored a touchdown on his first collegiate reception and recorded two receptions for 83 yards. Unfortunately, he suffered a broken left foot during the fourth quarter of his third game, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He finished his freshman year with 11 catches for 149 yards and one touchdown.

Early Career (2021)

Tarik Black began his professional career when he signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2021. He was waived on August 31, 2021, but re-signed to the practice squad the following day. However, he was released on November 23, 2021. Shortly after, on December 7, 2021, he joined the New York Jets practice squad. He made his first career NFL catch in the last game of the season against the Buffalo Bills. Black signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on January 10, 2022, but was waived on August 30, 2022.

Breakthrough (2022-2023)

After his time with the Jets, Black signed with the Baltimore Ravens on January 3, 2023, where he had multiple stints on the practice squad. He was waived on August 29, 2023, but was re-signed to the practice squad shortly after. Despite his efforts, he was released on January 17, 2024. On July 31, 2024, Black was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers but was waived/injured shortly after. He was then signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad on October 23, 2024, and signed a reserve/future contract with them on January 7, 2025.
