Teddy Allen was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and grew up in Mesa, Arizona. His childhood was marked by challenges, including living in a household with an abusive father until he was 11 years old. Initially attending Desert Ridge High School, he faced disciplinary issues that led to his dismissal after a fight. Following this, he attended Canyon Valley School and Highland High School, where he struggled with mental health issues. Eventually, he moved to Boys Town, a treatment and education facility for at-risk youth in Boys Town, Nebraska, at the recommendation of his stepfather. During his junior year, Allen showcased his talent by averaging 26.6 points and 12.4 rebounds per game, earning second team All-Nebraska honors. Tragically, early in his senior season, his mother, Elise, passed away from cancer. Despite this hardship, he excelled on the court, averaging 31.6 points and 13 rebounds per game, and was named the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year.
Path to Basketball
Teddy Allen began his college basketball career at West Virginia University, where he played as a freshman, participating in 35 games and averaging seven points and 2.7 rebounds per game. After a brief stint at Nebraska, he joined New Mexico State University as a graduate transfer, where he made an immediate impact by scoring 41 points in a game against Abilene Christian and earning the WAC Player of the Year title.
