Xavier Worthy is an American professional football wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns, earning three All-Big 12 honors. Worthy holds the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine, clocking in at 4.21 seconds, and was selected by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Early Life and Background
Xavier Worthy was born on April 27, 2003, in Fresno, California. He attended Central East High School in Fresno, where he showcased his talent in football. Worthy was selected to play in the 2021 All-American Bowl, although the game was ultimately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, he committed to the University of Michigan to play college football but later changed his commitment to the University of Texas at Austin.
Path to American Football
Worthy earned immediate playing time during his freshman season at Texas in 2021. He had a breakout year, breaking several freshman school records, including receiving yards in a season with 981 yards and receiving touchdowns in a season with 12. These records were previously held by Roy Williams. Worthy also set the school record for receiving yards in a game with 261 yards against rival Oklahoma. His impressive performance earned him recognition as a true-freshman All-American by multiple sports outlets.

Early Career (2021-2023)
During his sophomore year in 2022, Worthy played and started in all 13 games as the starting wide receiver and primary punt returner. He logged 60 receptions for 760 yards and nine touchdowns, while also returning 15 punts for 146 yards. Worthy maintained a streak of catching a pass in every game, marking a 25-game streak, which is the eighth-longest in Texas history. At the end of the season, he was named to the All-Big 12 second team.
Breakthrough (2023)
In 2023, Worthy continued to excel, playing and starting in all 14 games. He recorded 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns, and returned 22 punts for an NCAA-leading 371 yards and one touchdown. His outstanding performance led him to be named to the All-Big 12 first team at wide receiver and return specialist, as well as an All-American second team as a punt returner. On January 2, 2024, Worthy announced that he would forgo his senior year and enter the NFL Draft.

Worthy set the 40-yard dash record of 4.21 seconds at the 2024 NFL Combine, breaking the previous record of 4.22 seconds held by John Ross. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, signing a four-year rookie contract worth $13.79 million fully guaranteed. In his debut game on September 5, 2024, Worthy scored his first touchdown on his first touch of the ball in the NFL, running it in from 21 yards out.
