Jeb Burton Bio

John Edward “Jeb” Burton IV (born August 6, 1992) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, driving the No. 27 Chevrolet Camaro SS for Jordan Anderson Racing. Burton has raced in each of NASCAR’s three national series and is a member of one of the sport’s most recognized families.

He is the son of former Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton, the nephew of veteran driver Jeff Burton, and the cousin of fellow NASCAR driver Harrison Burton. Burton first made a name for himself on short tracks in southern Virginia before climbing the national ranks.

Early Life and Background

Burton was born on August 6, 1992, in Halifax, Virginia, and grew up in Halifax County. He is one of three children of Ward Burton and Tabitha Burton. Like his father and uncle before him, Burton was raised around short-track racing and developed an early love for the sport at South Boston Speedway, where the Burton family is historically known for competing.

He graduated from Halifax County High School in 2011. Outside of racing, Burton is an avid outdoorsman and hunter, a hobby he shares with his father. His family ties to NASCAR gave him early exposure to high-level competition and helped shape his path to a professional driving career.

Path to NASCAR

Burton began his professional racing career in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at South Boston Speedway shortly after turning sixteen. He made his first Limited Sportsman Series start in 2008 and ran his first full season at the track in 2009, finishing fourth in the standings. In 2010, he moved up to the Late Model class, finished eleventh in points, and won the track’s Late Model Rookie of the Year award.

During 2011, Burton expanded his Late Model schedule to tracks such as Ace Speedway, Orange County Speedway, and Martinsville Speedway. He earned his first Late Model win at Ace Speedway in June 2011 and collected five Late Model victories that season across the southern Virginia and central North Carolina region.

Jeb Burton Career

Early Career (2008–2011)

Burton’s early career was built on the short tracks of Virginia and North Carolina. He cut his teeth in Limited Sportsman and Late Model competition, learning the craft of stock car racing at the same circuits where his father and uncle had once competed. He also branched out into other series, including a one-off guest appearance in the SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup at Virginia International Raceway in 2009.

By 2011, Burton was viewed as a rising star in stock car racing. That July, he made his ARCA Menards Series debut in the Hantz Group 200 at Berlin Raceway, driving the No. 6 Toyota Camry for Eddie Sharp Racing. Although his first touring-series run ended early due to suspension damage, the event marked his official entry into big-league stock car competition.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Breakthrough (2012–2014)

Burton moved into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2012 with Hillman Racing, sharing the No. 27 Chevrolet with his father Ward. He made his series debut at Martinsville Speedway after being ineligible for the season opener at Daytona due to his lack of superspeedway experience. Sponsorship shortages forced him to skip several races, but the late-season move to Turner Motorsports set the stage for a strong 2013 campaign.

The 2013 season was Burton’s breakthrough year. He captured his first career Truck Series pole at Martinsville Speedway in April and then won the WinStar World Casino 400K at Texas Motor Speedway on June 7, 2013, scoring his first NASCAR national-series victory. Burton finished fifth in the final Truck Series standings that year, with one win, seven poles, and eleven top-ten finishes. He returned to ThorSport Racing in 2014 and finished eighth in points before losing his ride when sponsor Estes Express Lines could not extend its agreement.

NASCAR Cup Series (2015)

After losing his Truck Series ride, Burton was signed by BK Racing to drive the No. 26 Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 after a wreck in his qualifying duel but made his first official Cup start the following week at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, finishing 35th.

Throughout 2015, Burton battled to qualify for races, sharing seat time with J. J. Yeley in the No. 23 before the teams swapped full-time. He recorded a career-best Cup finish of 27th at Martinsville Speedway and ended the year third in the Cup Series Rookie of the Year standings. Despite being described as a multi-year deal, Burton did not return to BK Racing for 2016.

NASCAR Xfinity Series (2016–2024)

Burton returned to the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2016 with Richard Petty Motorsports, driving the No. 43. After sponsor J. Streicher and Co. defaulted on its agreement, he split the rest of the season between Biagi-DenBeste Racing and JGL Racing, scoring a fourth-place finish in the July race at Daytona. He later ran part-time Xfinity schedules with Richard Childress Racing, JR Motorsports, and Our Motorsports.

On November 16, 2020, it was announced that Burton would compete full-time in the 2021 Xfinity Series with Kaulig Racing in the No. 10 Camaro. He earned his first career Xfinity Series win at Talladega Superspeedway on April 24, 2021, when rain ended the Ag-Pro 300 with 23 laps remaining. In 2022, he drove the No. 27 for Our Motorsports before joining Jordan Anderson Racing in 2023, where he scored his second career Xfinity win at Talladega in the Ag-Pro 300 and delivered the team its first victory.

Jordan Anderson Racing Era (2023–Present)

Burton joined Jordan Anderson Racing full-time in 2023, bringing his familiar No. 27 with him from Our Motorsports. He opened the year with an 11th-place run at Daytona and added his second career Xfinity win at Talladega, an emotional victory for the small team. He also ran a special paint scheme at the Daytona August race honoring his father Ward’s 2002 Daytona 500 victory.

Burton returned to Jordan Anderson Racing in 2024 and finished 19th in the Xfinity Series standings with three top-ten results, including a best finish of seventh at Talladega. In 2025, he is back with the team for another full-time run in the renamed NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

Driving Style and Strengths

Burton is widely regarded as a strong superspeedway racer, with both of his Xfinity Series wins coming at Talladega. His short-track background has sharpened his race craft, and he has shown the patience and race management needed to capitalize on late-race restarts. His partnership with Jordan Anderson Racing has allowed him to play a veteran leadership role on a developing team.

Notable Races and Milestones

Burton’s signature moments include his first NASCAR national-series win in the 2013 WinStar World Casino 400K at Texas Motor Speedway, his 2021 Xfinity breakthrough at Talladega, and his 2023 return to Talladega’s victory lane. He has also honored his father’s legacy with throwback paint schemes celebrating the 2002 Daytona 500.

Jeb is also the cousin of current NASCAR driver Harrison Burton, Jeff’s son. The Burton family’s deep ties to South Boston Speedway helped shape Jeb’s introduction to racing.

Personal Life

Burton is one of three children of Ward and Tabitha Burton. He grew up in Halifax County, Virginia, and graduated from Halifax County High School in 2011. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he often spends time outside of racing in the field, following in the footsteps of his father.

2025 Season Performance

Burton is competing full-time in the 2025 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with Jordan Anderson Racing, driving the No. 27 Chevrolet Camaro SS. After a steady 2024 season that produced three top-ten finishes, he has continued to provide the small team with veteran leadership and consistent race pace. Through the early portion of the 2025 campaign, he is positioned to contend for another run at the Xfinity-style playoffs.

His superspeedway strength remains a key asset, with Talladega once again circled as a marquee opportunity for a third career O’Reilly Auto Parts Series win. Looking ahead, Burton’s primary goals for 2025 include qualifying for the playoffs and pushing for a deep postseason run. With a full season of data from 2024 to build on, he and the Jordan Anderson Racing crew are aiming to convert their superspeedway speed into stronger results on intermediate tracks as well. A win would lock him into the playoffs and mark another milestone in a career that already spans all three of NASCAR’s national series.
