At the 2026 AHL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held Wednesday in Rockford, Illinois, Kris Versteeg and Patrick Sharp were recognized as honorary captains of the AHL All-Star Classic. Both players have significant connections to the AHL and the Chicago Blackhawks, illustrating their impact at multiple levels of professional hockey.
Versteeg’s Journey Through the AHL and NHL Success
Kris Versteeg played four seasons in the American Hockey League, including two with the Rockford IceHogs during the 2007-08 and 2019-20 seasons. Over his 10-year NHL career, Versteeg appeared in more than 650 games and contributed crucial roles for the Chicago Blackhawks in their Stanley Cup victories in 2010 and 2015.
I was in Rockford when I didn’t think I was going to get my chance in the NHL,

I called my dad and said ‘should I just quit or should I stick with it?’ My dad said ‘You can either come sell tractors to farmers or go out and make the NHL.’

Patrick Sharp’s AHL Background and NHL Achievements
Patrick Sharp’s career includes parts of three seasons spent in the AHL, notably winning the Calder Cup in 2005 with the Philadelphia Phantoms. Sharp skated in 939 NHL games, scoring 287 goals and assisting on 333 others, tallying a total of 620 points. He spent the majority of his 15 NHL seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, playing a central role in their Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

Alongside Versteeg and Sharp, Chicago Wolves executive Wendell Young was inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame. Mark Bernard, General Manager of the Rockford IceHogs, nominated Young for this prestigious recognition. The ceremony also coincided with the All-Star Game at the BMO Center, where both Versteeg and Sharp served as coaches.
