Hinchcliffe will compete in one of Spire Motorsports’ part-time entries, driving the No. 77 Chevrolet Silverado RST with sponsorship from Delaware Life.

Hinchcliffe’s Past Success on St. Petersburg Circuit
James Hinchcliffe holds a special connection to the St. Petersburg track, having secured his first IndyCar victory there in March 2013. Starting fourth on the grid, he claimed the lead after a late restart and successfully fended off a charge from veteran racer Helio Castroneves. Castroneves, who made his NASCAR Cup debut at the Daytona 500 last year, was one of the notable opponents Hinchcliffe beat in that memorable race.
Expressing enthusiasm about his NASCAR venture and relationship with his new team, Hinchcliffe shared:
“I just love this track and I have always wanted to try something in the NASCAR world. I have been in the Spire family for a long time, so it just made sense to run with them. I can’t thank Dan (Towriss, CEO and President), Jeff (Dickerson, co-owner), Bill (Anthony, team president),” James Hinchcliffe said in a team release.
Other IndyCar Stars Joining the NASCAR Truck Race at St. Pete
The St. Petersburg Truck Series weekend will also feature several other well-known IndyCar names. Dario Franchitti, a four-time IndyCar champion, is set to race for TRICON Garage in the No. 1 Toyota, backed by Dollar Tree and Legacy Motor Club. The Truck race is scheduled to be broadcast on FOX on February 28.
Anticipating the challenge and excitement of his debut, Hinchcliffe remarked:
“It will be a baptism of fire. Having my first race in a truck being on a street course with no room for error, but these races always look like so much fun, so I am really looking forward to the opportunity. Plus, I love that it’s going to be shown on FOX Sports, with some of my IndyCar colleagues joining the broadcast, so that should add an extra layer of fun to it,” James Hinchcliffe said.
Hinchcliffe’s Role Beyond the Race Weekend
In addition to competing on the track, Hinchcliffe will also join the FOX Sports broadcast team as a commentator for the IndyCar race at St. Petersburg on March 1. He will provide analysis alongside broadcasters Will Buxton and Townsend Bell, sharing his insights with audiences during the season opener.
Meanwhile, Spire Motorsports is expanding its part-time NASCAR Truck program this year. Kyle Busch is slated for eight starts in the No. 7 truck, while Carson Hocevar will compete in thirteen races in the No. 77 truck, beginning with the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
