“This is a group that’s resilient. They’ve been through a lot of the change and challenge of the last couple of years, and they just keep plowing,”
he said.

While searching for a new president of business operations, Tom Pohlad opted not to duplicate the position Falvey held on the baseball side, instead consolidating responsibilities. His confidence in Zoll’s capability to lead the baseball operations was clear.
“If Jeremy Zoll won the job to be the GM a year ago, that should tell you something about Jeremy Zoll. There was plenty of competition in this organization and outside this organization for that role. I’m 100% committed to him as being the right leader in this moment in time to assume all the responsibilities that Derek had with respect to baseball.”

Zoll’s Background and Approach to Team Building
Jeremy Zoll, hired eight years ago by Falvey as director of minor league operations, has a baseball background that includes playing at Haverford College in Pennsylvania and working as an advanced scouting coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels in 2014. At 35, Zoll is now the youngest baseball operations chief in Major League Baseball, holding both executive vice president and general manager titles.
The Twins’ payroll remains among the lowest in the league compared to two years ago, yet they have retained key players such as Byron Buxton, Pablo López, and Joe Ryan. This indicates the organization’s intent to remain competitive in the American League Central, despite budget constraints.
“There was a strategic element to that to make sure we weren’t setting ourselves up for some massive rebuild and tearing it all the way down and knowing that there’s this way you can regenerate talent within the system much more quickly if you’re starting with upper-level or already-at-the-big-leagues talent,”
