Melvin previously led the Oakland Athletics from 2011 to 2021, guiding the team to six playoff appearances with a record of 853 wins and 764 losses. Although the Athletics did not advance past the American League Division Series under his management, Melvin kept them competitive through much of his tenure. After departing Oakland, he managed the San Diego Padres for two seasons, leading them to one playoff berth, and then spent time as the Giants’ manager during the 2024-25 period.
