Tyler Reddick’s Daytona Win Celebrated with Brave Infant Son

Tyler Reddick secured his first Daytona 500 win on Sunday at Daytona International Speedway, a landmark victory made even more meaningful as he shared the moment with his family, including his infant son, Rookie. The day was filled with emotion and celebration after Reddick broke a 38-race winless streak, driving for 23XI Racing and ending the race by navigating through a last-lap crash to claim victory.

Reddick’s young son, six-year-old Beau, excitedly climbed onto the roof of the No. 45 Toyota, and his wife quickly joined in to place their brave infant Rookie in Reddick’s lap as they all posed in victory lane alongside the iconic Harley J. Earl trophy. The presence of 23XI team owner, NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, also highlighted the significance of the moment.

Rookie’s Health Journey Inspires Family and Fans

Behind the joy of the win was a deeply personal story: Rookie, who approaches his ninth month, has faced serious health challenges over the past year. Last October, Rookie was diagnosed with a tumor in his chest that affected his heart, and doctors determined that one kidney had to be removed after it ceased functioning properly. His condition impacted vital organs, causing his heart to enlarge as it worked harder to pump blood.

As Rookie begins to crawl and grow, his resilience has only added to the emotional weight of the celebration. Tyler Reddick reflected on this poignant reality after the race, noting,

“I just remember getting out of the car, and typically I’ve just been able to focus on Beau and my wife, and it’s like Rookie is getting to experience this for the first time, too,”

Reddick said.

“Rookie is a trooper, whether it’s been the Thunderbirds blasting over the track, just super loud, stuff I love.”

The Challenges of Balancing Racing and Family Life

Leading up to the big race, Reddick had moments where he struggled to manage the energetic young boy who is eager to explore and crawl, comparing his son’s speed to his own racing style. He explained,

“You start crawling really fast and we have to keep up with that,”

adding,

“Keep away from the stairs and the bus.”

Tyler’s attentive care for Rookie during the hectic race weekend, including a confined motorhome and a Disney cruise preceding the event, underscores the balance he strives to maintain between his demanding profession and family responsibilities.

Overcoming Setbacks Leads to Renewed Success

The victory was a significant turnaround for Reddick following a difficult 2025 season marked by unmet expectations and tough conversations within the 23XI Racing team. Despite the challenges, including personal strain, the driver maintained focus and determination.

Reddick, who joined 23XI Racing before the 2023 season after beginning his career with Richard Childress Racing, has steadily built momentum, making the NASCAR playoffs several times and accumulating multiple wins in recent years. Crew chief Billy Scott praised Reddick’s attitude, stating,

“It was never a frustration of discouragement or disappointment or blame or anything else,”

and highlighted,

“he’s entered the season with a new, I think, rejuvenated outlook on things.”

On Sunday, Reddick led only the final lap but made it count, becoming the 25th different driver to lead a lap in the Daytona 500, setting a new record.

Support from Team Ownership Elevates Victory

Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, co-owners of 23XI Racing, embraced Reddick enthusiastically in victory lane, sharing in the driver’s triumph. Reddick recognized the faith placed in him by the team’s elite owners. He commented,

“I have someone like Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin saying, ‘you’re our first pick, you’re the guy that we want most … it’s just crazy,”

adding,

“But they believe in what I bring to the table. It’s just nice to be able to deliver on those things for people like that.”

Looking Ahead with Determination and Hope

With the 2026 season underway and a marquee victory at the Daytona 500 already secured, Reddick appears poised to continue building on his success. The emotional and intense start to the season, coupled with the support of his family and team, fuels his motivation. Holding Rookie and witnessing his son’s joy amid the celebrations reinforces what makes this achievement so meaningful.

Tyler Reddick summed up the spirit of the moment:

“Rookie loves this stuff. The crazier it is, he just starts laughing and loves it,”

emphasizing affectionately, “He’s wild, like his dad.”
