NASCAR COTA Draws Record Crowd, Fuels Push for Annual Race

Following a record-breaking NASCAR race at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Texas Motor Speedway Executive Director Mark Faber announced that his organization will conduct a thorough review later this year with NASCAR officials and COTA Chairman Bobby Epstein to evaluate the potential for events in 2027. This evaluation follows the sixth consecutive NASCAR weekend hosted at COTA, which Faber described as a “terrific weekend.”

Positive Growth Seen in Attendance and Interest

Faber emphasized the steady increase in important metrics year over year, stating that the numbers are

“pacing upward on all the key numbers year over year.”

The partnership operates on a year-to-year basis, with Speedway Motorsports—owners of Texas Motor Speedway—renting the COTA venue. The exact terms of the contract remain confidential, but the discussion highlights the growing enthusiasm among drivers, teams, and fans for continuing NASCAR’s presence in Austin.

Drivers and Fans Support Continuation of NASCAR at Austin Track

Several prominent drivers expressed strong support for the ongoing NASCAR races at COTA. Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch remarked,

“No sense messing with a good thing.”

Team Penske’s Joey Logano noted the unique experience of NASCAR competing on a Formula 1 track, calling it “an interesting change of pace.” This enthusiasm aligns with NASCAR’s strategy of attracting families from the surrounding five-state region by promoting affordability, contrasting with the more international and upscale image of Formula 1 events.

Outlook for NASCAR’s Future at Circuit of the Americas

Mark Faber concluded on a hopeful note regarding the future of NASCAR at COTA, saying,

“This is a big deal, and the signs (for the future) look good,”

further adding, “I think everyone wants it.” As discussion moves forward, the increasing attendance and widespread support could help solidify COTA as a permanent stop on the NASCAR calendar, potentially shaping the sport’s growth in the region and its appeal to a broader audience.
