Ryan Blaney Seals Phoenix Win to Complete Team Penske Sweep

Ryan Blaney secured a crucial win at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday during the NASCAR Cup Series Straight Talk Wireless 500, delivering the finishing blow that completed Team Penske’s weekend sweep. Blaney’s Phoenix win came after a fiercely contested race featuring numerous cautions and crashes, where he overtook Christopher Bell with 10 laps remaining to take the lead and hold on for his 18th career Cup Series victory.

Race Developments Marked by Multiple Cautions and Lead Changes

The race began with Joey Logano, also from Team Penske, starting on the pole alongside Kyle Larson in second. Logano controlled the opening 46 laps before Ryan Blaney assumed the lead following a pit stop. Blaney led the closing 16 laps of the first stage to claim that segment. The second stage saw heavy interruptions with four cautions, including a three-car collision involving Chase Elliott, Daniel Suarez, and Josh Berry on lap 104. In total, 12 cautions covered 86 laps, tying the track record for the most cautions.

Christopher Bell emerged victorious in the second stage amid the chaotic conditions. The final stage featured eight more cautions, with multiple multi-car crashes, including one on lap 295 that involved John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Dillon, Zane Smith, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Bell led much of the late part of the race before Blaney passed him with just 10 laps remaining, ultimately winning by 0.399 seconds.

Top Finishers and Upcoming Race Preview

Kyle Larson, Ty Gibbs, and Denny Hamlin completed the top five finishers, while Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Tyler Reddick, Michael McDowell, and Erik Jones rounded out the top ten. Blaney’s win added to Team Penske’s dominant weekend, following Josef Newgarden’s victory in the IndyCar race the day before. The NASCAR Cup Series now looks ahead to the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next Sunday, set to begin at 4 pm on FS1.

“It was a tough race, with so many cautions, but our team kept pushing, and I’m proud to bring home this win for Penske.” ?Ryan Blaney, Driver
