76ers Trade Jared McCain to Thunder for Four Draft Picks

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to trade guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for four draft picks, according to ESPN’s report on Wednesday. McCain, selected 16th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, had a diminished role during his sophomore season with the Sixers.

McCain’s Performance and Role with the 76ers

During the 2024-25 season, McCain averaged 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists across 16.8 minutes in 37 games, including one start. The 21-year-old Duke alumnus had previously ranked seventh in the Rookie of the Year voting despite limited opportunities, playing just 23 games with eight starts in his debut season. His season was cut short in mid-December due to a left knee injury, after posting 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in 25.7 minutes before the injury.

Trade Details and Outlook for the 76ers

Philadelphia will receive the Houston Rockets’ 2026 first-round draft pick along with three additional future second-round draft selections. This move comes ahead of the trade deadline, set for Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. The Sixers appear to be prioritizing future assets as McCain moves on to join the Thunder.

Thunder’s Current Status and What to Expect

The Oklahoma City Thunder, the defending NBA champions, currently lead the league standings with a 40-11 record. Adding McCain could bolster their roster depth as they prepare for the remainder of the season and the playoffs.
