Hawks Cut Injured Duop Reath Just Days After Trade

The Atlanta Hawks waived injured center Duop Reath on Thursday, only four days after acquiring him in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. This move comes shortly after Atlanta sent forward Vit Krejci to Portland in exchange for Reath along with 2027 and 2030 second-round draft picks.

Injury Details and Recent Surgery Sideline Reath for Season

Reath has been sidelined since January 18 due to a stress fracture in his right foot. After undergoing surgery last week to address the injury, he is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Prior to his injury, Reath averaged 2.9 points and 1.2 rebounds.

Additional Roster Moves: Hawks Sign Jock Landale and Trade Kristaps Porzingis

In related roster changes, Atlanta acquired center Jock Landale from the Utah Jazz on Wednesday in exchange for cash. Landale, 30, appeared in 45 games and started 25 times for Memphis, averaging 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds. On the same day, the Hawks traded center Kristaps Porzingis to Golden State, receiving forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Buddy Hield in return.

Impact on Team Composition and Future Prospects

These rapid transactions demonstrate the Hawks’ efforts to reshape their roster amidst injury setbacks. The addition of Landale, alongside the arrivals of Kuminga and Hield, provides Atlanta with fresh options in the frontcourt and backcourt. Meanwhile, the release of Reath underlines the team’s need to manage injuries effectively as the season progresses.
